In the Valencia Community, light, sun and adventure born every day. A light that served as inspiration to artists, painters, sculptors and writers from all over the world and who spent its last years in the small town of Altea, Alicante, one of the most beautiful places in this Mediterranean part and where the most part of the year enjoys a spring climate.
From the tip of Mascarat and located in a bay, you can find Altea between the sea and the mountains, that offers us an image almost symbolic of the Costa Blanca.
With the blue and white dome of his parish church, as a reflection of the sea is visible from the top of Altea – the Place of Our Lady of Consuelo, this fishing village descends through the cobbled streets and offset that hide white facade and Mediterranean flavors.

The streets descend slowly towards the sea, and parish houses, whitewashed since its construction, make it the ideal place for a relaxing holiday and for the withdrawal of many retirees who have found a paradise in Altea.
To the north is the Sierra Bernia, with 1129 m. at its peak. Altea is protected by the mountain. As a shield of solid rock it prevents the cold winds and fall outside influences, creating a microclimate magic.
The Algar River, or River of Health, as it was previously known for the quality of its waters, through the end of NO to N and ends near the heart of the village.
Along the sea is its fishing port and marina, known as the Club Nautico Altea. Alongside them, the Mediterranean, almost always quiet around here. And very close to this is the seafront promenade, which stretches from the port to the old fishing village, full of shops, cafes and restaurants with terraces in summer. Its street market is one of the most popular Costa Blanca.
Beaches: Altea has more than 6 km of coastline with alternating areas of cliffs and coves, stretches of beach on flat ground. Among these are:
- La Olla. This beach has a long tradition of resort early in the century. Opposite stands the La Olla “Isleta”, a small island 500 meters from the beach, like a big shell that emerges from the water, attracts tourists to admire the beauty of this corner. When colder it is in this part of town there is a place in this beautiful beach where the water begins to boil, that’s where the name comes from.
- Cap Negret. Rocks and the waters clean, very popular for the calm we breathe. In this range there are a number of black volcanic rocks that are especially a rock in the shape of a head and it’s the origin of the name.
- The Mascarat. This beach is located in the Sierra de Bernia. This is the marina of Campomanes. The Mascarat is next to the nearby town of Calpe.
- La Roda. This is the most popular beach, which is located in the town of Altea.
- Cap Blanch. The largest beach in Altea, greatly increases in width until it joins the Albir beach, which belongs to the municipality of Alfaz del Pi
Most important monuments in Altea:
- Monastery Church Carmelitas Descalzas. La Olla. 50 years of presence in Altea.
- Tour de Galera. Declared of cultural interest.
- Tour de Bellaguarda. Former Watchtower which is now next to a picturesque park in the district of Bellaguarda (the oldest part of Altea in the news).
- The parish church of Our Lady of Consuelo. The main church of Altea, and best known, thanks to its two domes that delight the eye of every visitor, in addition to being the symbol par excellence of Altea and are called “the dome of the Mediterranean” for its beauty and its splendor.
- Old Town. Next to the church of Consuelo, is the old town, popularly known as the Fornet. This is one of the most beautiful parts of the town of Altea. You can enjoy its many points of view because it rests on top of a hill. You can also enjoy a pleasant supper one of the many restaurants that are there, have a drink or simply enjoy the culture of the fishing village, so well preserved in Altea with its white houses, flowers and cobblestone streets.
- Palau Altea. Cultural Centre. In this building you can see a print by Picasso, enjoy a beautiful opera hands soprano Ainhoa Arteta, see a play or simply accompany the artist Julio Iglesias, in one of his concerts .
